The coming period will see important changes around certification for small organisations (up to and including 50 employees including hiring) within the SCL structure. Below you can read about what is changing, what this means for you and your organisation, and how we will ensure a smooth transition.
Introduction of SA and SCL Light for small organisations
From 2 July 2025, as a small organisation, you can:
- Include an SA (Safety Assessment) on the register.
- In addition, you can get certified on the new SCL Light for small organisations. This has been specially developed for small organisations.
Completion of certification on current ASA
- Until 31 December 2025, existing and signed ASA bids can still lead to certification.
- From 1 January 2026, you can no longer certify on theASA product. New certification processes will then no longer be launched.
- Please note that after 1 January 2026, an ASA statement will only be included in the register if the audit took place no later than 31 December 2025.
Validity of existing declarations and statements
- Existing ASA statements and SCL Light statements remain valid for the original term issued.
- Do you want to switch from a current SCL Light to the new SCL Light for small organisations? Then you need to do a (re)certification audit, which belongs to the first year of the certification cycle.
Coulation scheme for ASAs
- For ASAs expiring in 2025, there is a leniency: validity is automatically extended to 1 January 2026.
- NEN incorporates this adjustment into the register.
Brief summary
Small organisations will have more appropriate certification options from July 2025, while the current ASA product is slowly being phased out. Taking timely action will help you avoid delays or ambiguity in certification. Do you have any questions? If so, feel free to contact your certification body or NEN.
