Step-by-step plan

The step-by-step plan contains five steps that will help you obtain an SCL certificate or statement.

Follow the five-step plan

If you would like to obtain an SCL certificate or statement, follow the five steps below:

1. Understand the SCL and choose a product

To understand what the SCL 2.0 is and what an audit involves, start by reading all the information available (including the standard and the Certification Scheme.

Next, choose the SCL product you want to obtain. When doing this, be aware of the audit involved and the type of document (certificate or statement) you will receive. Both vary depending on the product you choose.

2. Self-assessment

You will assess safety culture in your organisation on the basis of a number of questions. This is the Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), which you can complete via the webtool. This SAQ is not mandatory for all products.

3. Assessment by a CB

A certification body (CB) will assess your organisation and conduct an audit against the step in question. The CB will do this on the basis of interviews and observations during on-site work visits.

choose a certification body.

4. Receive your certificate or statement

If the audit shows that you have met the minimum requirements, you will receive a certificate or statement. Your organisation will be added to the online certificates register.

5. Recertification

A certificate or statement will be valid for three years. A follow-up audit will be conducted in Years 2 and 3 to see whether you still meet the requirements and whether your certificate or statement will be renewed.
